This piece of music by Edward Alexander MacDowell (1860-1908) is from 1896. It is one of 10 'Woodland Sketches'.

Shubael1809: I agree. His Scottish heritage is so evident in this piece. The indication of a Scottish song lingers in the sub-composition. Many dismiss him because (like Massenet) they felt he composed too much to his public requirement. Many complain MacDowell's music is overly-sentimental.  I find a good deal of it (especially this piece as played in this video) mesmeric.

TheCinemasound: Ian Tracey recorded AD 1620 at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral for me some years ago. Great recording, a real earth shaker when the 32' open wood comes in. There is something very nice about Macdowell's music.
